Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India - Fatehpur Sikri

Well, I haven't been able to post anything for a couple of days because the internet connection in Agra wasn't great.  So the information below is for my impressions and experiences from August 1, 2010.

We arrived by train early Sunday morning in Agra. That same afternoon, our new guide took us to a nearby town to see Fatehpur Sikri.  Fatehpur Sikri is a complex of monuments and temples.  It was actually the capital of the Mughal Empire for 10 years in the second half of the 16th century.  The Emperor Akbar built the monument in honor of a Sufi saint named Salim Chisti.  Salim Chisti was a recluse that lived in Sikri.  Akbar consulted him because he was concerned about having an heir to his empire after having lost some possible heirs.  Chisti correctly predicted that Akbar would have an heir to the throne.  His son was born in Sikri in 1569.  There were a lot of cool buildings.  I could definitely imagine what life was like there while we were sightseeing.  In fact, our conversation that evening was about which part of the site we like best.  It was like playing.  Below are some of many incredible images we saw.

The next day we went to the Taj Mahal!
