Dawn on the Ganges

This morning the group began the day at 4:45 a.m.  We went to the main ghat on the Ganges for a boat ride.  Everyone says that the Ganges must be seen at two different times of the day.  During the evening, what we witnessed was more as an audience rather than participant, although we were still recipients of the blessings from the Aarti ceremony.  In the morning, however, the Ganges is more intimate and personal.  Pilgrims have come from all over India and the world to immerse themselves or bathe in her waters.   She is said to wash away the sins of lifetimes.

The people under the umbrellas are selling natural degradable offerings, like flowers, leaves and garlands made out of flowers that you can leave on the Ganges.

Getting ready to enter a temple with Gangaji in the background.
